Submitted 4 months ago By LEB I am a Masters Club member, who has been collecting coins from the RCM, the Royal Mint, and the US Mint for decades, but have never bothered to concern myself with their potential value as I am aware that my grandchildren or great-grandchildren will more likely benefit for them than myself. Curious what my coin collection may now be worth, I found my first glance at this publication to be gravely disappointing in that the glossary is woefully lacking and assumes the reader is somehow a master coin collector or dealer and should know the meaning of every abbreviation contained in the book. That is not the case. The INTRODUCTION doesn't start on page 1 (as I would expect with any book) but on page 86. There is no TABLE OF ABBREVIATIONS to explain was the various short forms mean in table heading or descriptions such as "N.S.I" as an issue price. Information is not up to the high quality standards one would expect from the RCM. Too many inaccuracies to mention, from current value amounts to coin descriptions. One that is glaringly obvious, is the Anatomy of a Coin illustration on page 81. Item #3 Issuing Country: points to the area between the beading and the legend. #4 Field: points to the issuing country. #8 Device: points to the field. #9 Portrait: points to the device on the reverse. If something as basic as this is inaccurate, it was no surprise that there were many more in the book. It didnt quite have the numbers I was hoping for for values. I wish the grading section was a little more organized. What I mean by unorganized is that is tells one how to grade a effigy for the first time that effigy was minted. I wish it would atleast add a page reference or better yet a more detailed grading section with how to grade each coin included. Though that would take to much paper, so atleast referencing the page on how to grade the said die cast would make it easier for beginners like me. Overall it's a good book for starting out or the novice collector, though I dont think beginners need to purchase every year unless one has a hoard of mint silver, gold, or any other non circulated coin More Details Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend Was this review helpful to you? 7 0 Flag this review 5 Cant wait until I get this book. Submitted 8 months ago By Rare Money Collector Verified Reviewer Current Information for Numismatics collectors like myself is great to have. I cant wait to see what the current values are of my collection. I have been collecting for 50 years now. I have one of the largest collection I know of so this book will keep me busy for awhile. I am glad the mint put this book out and so glad it contains information on bank notes as well as coins.
